The Intel Core i7-4790K is a four-core, eight-thread CPU built on 22nm Devil's Canyon silicon. It operates at 4.0GHz with a maximum turbo of 4.4GHz and fits the LGA 1150 socket. The 88W thermal design power suits builds that need strong single-thread speed and simultaneous multi-threading for immersive games and creative tasks.
No stock fan ships in the box, so a separate cooling solution must be provided. Intel HD Graphics 4600 is built into the die, delivering baseline display output and Quick Sync media acceleration without a discrete card. Eight software threads let the processor distribute physics, AI and rendering across all cores while the graphics engine handles texturing and shading.
The memory controller supports only DDR3 in a two-channel configuration, capping theoretical throughput well below modern standards. L3 cache totals 8MB and L1 cache provides 256KB per core, which helps mitigate latency but cannot overcome the bus width constraint. Virtualisation technology is supported for legacy hypervisor workloads.

The processor is sold without a fan in the box, so you must supply your own LGA 1150 compatible cooler rated for at least 88W TDP.
The 88W thermal design power is the limiting factor; sustained turbo at 4.4GHz across all cores will hit that ceiling and the processor will throttle to stay within it.
At 88W TDP the chip itself produces a steady 88 watts of heat; actual noise and temperature depend entirely on the cooler you choose and your case airflow.
