Industrial RS232-to-RS485 Isolated Converter

This LORDWORLD converter translates RS232 signals into balanced differential RS485 for industrial and maker projects. It integrates ADI magnetic isolation and an onboard isolated power supply so no external source is needed for the isolated side. A DB9 female port handles RS232 while screw terminals and an RJ45 jack provide RS485 connectivity. The aluminium enclosure resists harsh environments.

Sustained-load behaviour

ADI magnetic isolation and TVS suppression maintain signal integrity during continuous operation at up to 115200 bps. The onboard resettable fuse and protection diodes regulate current and voltage without degradation over long runs. Three LEDs give instant visibility of power, transmit and receive activity so operators can verify link health in real time. The wide 6 V to 36 V DC input tolerates supply fluctuations common in factory settings.

RS485 bus practical limits

The optional 120 Ω termination resistor is switched on or off to match bus topology and reduce reflections. RS485 differential signalling supports cable runs up to 1200 m at lower baud rates, though maximum distance drops as speed increases toward 115200 bps. Multi-drop networks require careful biasing and termination planning beyond what a single converter can guarantee. Shielded twisted-pair cabling and proper grounding remain essential for reliable operation.
