The MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE WiFi uses the Intel Z490 chipset and LGA 1200 socket to support 10th and 11th Gen Intel Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron processors. Four DDR4 slots accept up to 128 GB of dual-channel memory at speeds from 2133 to 4000 MHz. An ATX form factor provides three PCIe slots and six SATA III ports alongside two M.2 interfaces for storage expansion.
Passive VRM heatsinks and 2.5 G LAN controller
The board relies on passive heatsinks over the voltage-regulator area so thermal performance and noise depend on case airflow rather than active cooling. A Realtek RTL8125B-CG controller delivers 2.5 Gbps wired networking without adding fan noise. Power draw scales with the installed CPU and memory kit; the board itself adds only the chipset and onboard controller overhead.
LGA 1200 socket defines CPU compatibility
Only processors built for the LGA 1200 socket will fit this motherboard. The Z490 chipset enables overclocking features for unlocked K-series chips while also accepting locked 10th and 11th Gen Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron parts. PCIe 4.0 support on the primary x16 slot requires an 11th Gen CPU; with a 10th Gen CPU the slot operates at PCIe 3.0.
