Single-bay desktop NAS for personal cloud

The Synology DS124 is a diskless one-bay network-attached storage device built around a Realtek RTD1619B quad-core 1.7 GHz processor with 1GB DDR4 memory. It accepts one 3.5" or 2.5" SATA drive up to 12TB and runs the Btrfs file system. Designed for home backup and media streaming, it operates at 10.69 W during access and 3.44 W in hibernation.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 expansion limits

Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports provide direct-attached storage expansion, yet the single internal SATA bay caps total live capacity at 12TB. RAID is restricted to Basic mode, so redundancy requires an external backup target. The 1GB DDR4 is soldered and not upgradeable, limiting concurrent service counts.
