Adafruit RGB Matrix FeatherWing Kit

The Adafruit RGB Matrix FeatherWing Kit is a prototyping add-on that lets makers drive 16, 32 or 64 pixel wide RGB matrices from a Feather board. It targets hobbyists and engineers who want to build animated displays without designing custom driver circuitry.

Two assembly options replace custom wiring

The kit includes a 2x8 IDC shrouded header for top mounting with the matrix cable, or a 2x10 socket header for bottom mounting so the Feather stacks directly on the wing. Choose the top-mount route when you need the Feather accessible for debugging, or the bottom-mount route for a slimmer profile behind the panel.

Works with M0 or M4 Feathers and 5 V DC power

The wing pairs with any Adafruit M0 or M4 Feather running the RGB Matrix library and accepts a 2.1 mm DC jack for a 5 V supply. It frees you from soldering level shifters or power regulators, leaving GPIO pins open for sensors or networking add-ons. Builders who need higher voltage panels or non-Feather hosts will need a different driver solution.

Preguntas sobre este artículo

What header style fits the 2x8 IDC cable supplied with a 16x32 or 32x32 RGB matrix?

Solder the 2x8 shrouded IDC header on the top of the FeatherWing so the ribbon cable from the matrix plugs straight in.

Which stacking order avoids the most common soldering mistake on this FeatherWing?

Decide before soldering: header on top for cable connection, or 2x10 socket on bottom to stack the Feather above; mixing them up requires desoldering.

When must the 2.1 mm DC jack be used instead of powering through the Feather?

Use the on-board 2.1 mm jack for a 5 V supply when driving 32-pixel tall matrices such as 32x32 or 64x32 panels.
