Compact 1U rack server for dense compute

The PowerEdge R630 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2620 V3 six-core processor running at 2.4GHz with 24GB of DDR4 memory across 24 DIMM slots. Two 300GB 15K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730 RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 750W redundant power supplies and iDRAC8 remote management come standard in a 1U chassis suited to space-constrained racks.

Thermals, noise and power in normal use

Redundant hot-swap power supplies share load to keep each unit operating in its efficient range during typical workloads. The 1U form factor uses high-speed system fans that ramp based on inlet temperature and component sensors. Acoustic output is therefore tied to rack airflow and ambient conditions rather than a fixed quiet profile. Power draw scales with the single installed CPU, memory population and the two 15K SAS spindles.

Sustained-load behaviour under continuous demand

With all six cores and twelve threads fully utilised the single processor maintains its 2.4GHz base frequency within the thermal envelope defined by the 1U cooling assembly. The H730 controller’s 1GB cache absorbs write bursts during extended RAID rebuilds or sequential streaming. Memory bandwidth remains capped at the processor’s supported DDR4 2400MT/s limit across the populated slots. A second processor socket is available for expansion when workloads exceed the single-CPU ceiling.
