The Dell PowerEdge T430 is a 5U tower server built for workgroup collaboration, mail, file, print and web serving in small or remote offices. Dual Intel Xeon E5-2660 v4 processors deliver 28 cores at 2.0 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo for multi-threaded application performance. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 registered ECC memory and eight 4 TB 7.2K SATA drives provide capacity for databases and shared storage. The PERC H730 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with a 1 GB cache and battery backup.

Verify power, rack space and memory expansion

Confirm the site can supply two 750 W platinum power supplies and that the 5U tower footprint fits the intended location. The LGA 2011-3 sockets are fully populated, so CPU upgrades are not possible without replacing both processors. Twelve DDR4 slots hold four 16 GB modules today, leaving eight slots open for expansion up to 384 GB. The H730 controller uses a dedicated mini slot; ensure no other add-in card occupies that space. Integrated dual-port 1 GbE and iDRAC 8 Express share the Broadcom 5720 LOM.

Under continuous load the PERC H730’s 1 GB battery-backed cache absorbs write bursts and maintains consistent RAID performance across the eight 7.2K SATA drives. Dual 750 W power supplies operate in redundant mode, so a single supply failure does not interrupt operation. iDRAC 8 Express provides remote monitoring of thermals, power and drive health during extended duty cycles. The tower chassis relies on internal airflow; keep front and rear vents clear to sustain cooling during prolonged compute or storage tasks.
