It uses the Marvell AQC107S controller to deliver multi-gigabit connectivity for workstations, NAS units or small-business servers that need faster wired throughput than standard gigabit adapters provide.

PCIe x4 bandwidth and cabling limits

The card operates at PCIe 3.0 x4 (8.0 GT/s per lane) and is backward compatible with PCIe 2.0 x4 (5.0 GT/s per lane). At 10 GBASE-T speeds it requires Category 6a or Category 7 cabling to reach 100 metres; Category 6 is limited to 55 metres. For 5 GbE and 2.5 GbE links, existing Category 5e runs of up to 100 metres are sufficient.

Marvell AQC107S controller

The AQC107S chipset integrates NBASE-T PHY technology and supports 10GBASE-T, 5GBASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T, 1000BASE-T and 100BASE-T auto-negotiation. It provides hardware offloads for IPv4/IPv6 checksums, large send, RSS, DCA and jumbo frames up to 16 kbytes, plus IEEE 1588v2 precision timing and Energy Efficient Ethernet for reduced host CPU load.
