As a blade, the M640 relies on the shared cooling infrastructure of a PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis rather than onboard fans. Power draw scales with the dual 18-core CPUs and the installed DDR4 memory under typical virtualization loads. Acoustic output is determined by the chassis fans, not the blade itself. The integrated Dell PERC S140 controller manages the two 960 GB SATA SSDs with minimal overhead.

Blade Chassis Compatibility Requirement

This server only operates inside a compatible Dell PowerEdge MX or M1000e blade enclosure, which supplies power, cooling and fabric interconnects.
