Targeted 1U rack server

The Dell PowerEdge R430 is a 1U rackmount server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a PERC H730 RAID controller with 1 GB cache. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5-inch hot-plug SAS or SATA drives and includes a DVD-ROM drive. Remote management is provided by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller.

Build integration needs

The server occupies one rack unit and requires rails for mounting, which are not included. A single 550 W redundant power supply is installed; the chassis can accept a second unit for full redundancy. Twelve DDR4 DIMM slots are present, six per processor, allowing expansion up to 384 GB when a second CPU is added. Two PCIe 3.0 slots provide room for additional network or storage cards. Four 1 GbE ports handle baseline connectivity.

Accessory impact

A power cable is included so the unit can be powered immediately. The absence of drive trays means storage must be sourced separately before the hot-plug bays become usable. No operating system, bezel, keyboard, mouse or video cable are supplied, so deployment planning should account for separate procurement of these items. The Matrox G200 graphics chip provides basic console output only.
