Compact 1U rack server for virtualised workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor running at 2.4 GHz with 24 GB of DDR4 memory across twelve DIMM slots. Redundant hot-swap 550 W power supplies and four 1 GbE ports come standard in a 1U chassis, making it a practical choice for small-to-mid-sized virtualisation hosts or database nodes that value density and serviceability. Remote management is handled by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller.

H330 RAID controller and eight 300 GB 15 K SAS

The integrated Perc H330 12 Gbps controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60, letting the eight factory-installed 2.5-inch 300 GB 15 K SAS drives be arranged for either capacity or redundancy. A DVD-ROM drive is included, and the front bays accept additional 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives with trays supplied. Two PCIe 3.0 slots remain available for extra networking or storage adapters.

24 GB memory ceiling and 16 TB raw storage headroom

The board is populated to its listed maximum of 24 GB, so any memory expansion requires replacing the installed modules rather than adding to them. Total raw drive capacity can reach 16 TB when larger drives are fitted, but the current 300 GB spindles limit usable space to 2.4 TB before RAID overhead. Buyers who need more memory headroom or all-flash performance will need a different platform.
