The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack server built for dense scale-out data centre computing. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with 12 cores and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system targets organisations that need high core counts in a single rack unit.

Included Controller and Network Card

A Dell PERC H730P 2 GB SAS/SATA storage controller provides RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through modes with battery-backed cache. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote management. Two 300 GB 10 K SAS drives, redundant 750 W platinum power supplies, rails and a bezel complete the bundle.

Memory Capacity and Type

The server contains 768 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots, reaching half of the 3 TB maximum supported by the platform. Buyers who need more memory headroom must populate the remaining DIMM slots with compatible DDR4 modules. This unit does not support other DDR generations.
