Dual Xeon 2.4 GHz 6-Core 2U Server

This new Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors running at 2.4 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. Sixteen registered ECC DDR4 modules provide 512 GB of memory at 2133 MHz across 24 slots. A PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages two 800 GB SATA SSDs. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies and an X520/I350 quad-port network card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports are included. iDRAC8 Enterprise and rails complete the package.

Virtualisation and Database Hosts

The twin 6-core CPUs and 512 GB DDR4 suit virtualisation clusters, database servers and VDI deployments that benefit from large memory capacity and hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays and the SAS/SATA controller allow further storage expansion. Buyers who need more than two processors cannot be served by this platform. Workloads requiring memory beyond 1.5 TB or a different drive interface than SATA or SAS should look elsewhere.

512 GB DDR4 Registered ECC Memory

The installed 512 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory occupies 16 of 24 slots and can grow to 1.5 TB. This capacity often determines whether the server fits a given consolidation ratio or in-memory database. Confirm that your workload fits within the 1.5 TB ceiling and that DDR4 registered ECC modules match your replacement or upgrade plans.
