Each CPU provides 12 cores, giving 24 threads total for heavy multi-threaded tasks. The platform targets midsize and large enterprises running databases, virtual desktop infrastructure or high-performance computing nodes. It arrives ready to deploy with rails and a front bezel included.

Upgrading from single-socket or lower-core platforms

Moving from a single-processor box or older 8-core Xeons adds a second socket and doubles the core count to 24, which helps when memory bandwidth and thread density limit performance. The 128 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory fills eight of 24 slots, leaving room to grow toward the 1.5 TB maximum. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible storage layouts.

Limits of the SAS 12 Gb/s backplane

Two 300 GB 10 K SAS drives occupy two of the eight 2.5-inch bays, so capacity is modest until more drives are added. The X520/I350 daughter card delivers two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, capping network throughput at 10 GbE per SFP+ link. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy but fix the power envelope for any future GPU or accelerator cards.
