The PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built around two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors, each running at 2.40 GHz with 14 cores. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across four DIMM slots, leaving 20 slots open for expansion up to 1.5 TB total capacity. This configuration targets midsize and large enterprises running virtual desktop infrastructure, database workloads or high-performance computing data nodes.

SAS storage controller

The Dell PERC H730 controller provides 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity with 1 GB cache and battery backup, supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Eight 2.4 TB 10K SAS drives fill the front bays, delivering high-capacity rotational storage but no solid-state media. The Intel X520/I350 daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, capping wired throughput at those speeds without additional adapters.

Redundant platinum power

Two hot-swap 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver full redundancy in a 2U chassis. Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for standard four-post rack mounting. iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables remote power cycling, console redirection and firmware updates over a dedicated management network. The system supports a maximum of two processors, so CPU upgrades are limited to the LGA 2011-3 socket family already populated.
