The Dell PowerEdge R730xd is a 2U rack server designed for midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, e-commerce platforms, virtual desktop infrastructure, databases and high-performance computing data nodes. It ships with twelve 8TB 7.2K SATA hard drives providing high capacity in a compact form factor. The system targets organisations that need substantial local storage alongside compute power.

Dual 750 W platinum supplies handle peak load

Two hot-swap 750 W platinum power supplies deliver redundant power for the dual 14-core Xeon processors, 256GB of DDR4 memory and the full complement of twelve drives. The PERC H730 controller with 1GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through, offloading parity calculations from the CPUs. iDRAC 8 Enterprise provides remote monitoring and management without adding to the thermal budget.

Twelve 3.5-inch bays fill the front panel

The 2U chassis uses all twelve front bays for the installed 8TB drives, leaving no internal 3.5-inch slots for expansion. The quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ connections for flexible fabric attachment. Twenty-four DDR4 slots hold the current 8x 32GB configuration with room to grow toward the 1.5TB maximum. Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack integration.
