The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twenty-four 2.5-inch hot-plug bays into a two-rack-unit chassis, giving a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor at 1.9 GHz and 48 GB of DDR4 memory direct access to a Perc H330 RAID controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. It targets teams who need high drive-count density for archival, backup or software-defined storage workloads.

H330 controller with dual 750 W supplies

The included Perc H330 handles twelve-gigabit-per-second SAS and SATA drives across all twenty-four bays while two redundant 750 W power supplies keep the array running during a module failure. No drives or trays ship with the unit, so buyers must source compatible SAS or SATA media and caddies before the server can store data. A DVD-ROM drive is present for legacy media installs.

Rack-ready chassis with iDRAC8 remote management

The 2U form factor mounts in standard four-post racks using an optional rail kit that is not supplied, and the front bezel is also absent. Four onboard one-gigabit Ethernet ports provide baseline connectivity, while a dedicated iDRAC8 Express port enables out-of-band power cycling, console redirection and hardware inventory without an operating system. Six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a dedicated RAID slot remain free for additional networking or acceleration cards.
