2U rack server with twelve 3.5-inch bays

This 2U rack server provides twelve hot-plug 3.5-inch drive bays for high-density storage workloads. A single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz delivers 20 virtual threads with hyper-threading. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across 24 DIMM slots. The system includes three 600 GB 15K SAS drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller.

SAS 6 Gbps interface limits drive throughput

The installed 600 GB drives operate on a 6 Gbps SAS interface, which caps sustained transfer rates below the 12 Gbps capability of the H730 controller. Twelve bays accept SAS or SATA drives, but the backplane speed remains at 6 Gbps for the supplied drives. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are supported by the controller. Maximum raw capacity across all bays reaches 52 TB.

Single processor limits memory to eight gigabytes

Only one processor is installed, so the 24 DIMM slots are reduced to 12 active channels and the memory ceiling stays at 8 GB until a second CPU is added. The board supports DDR4 modules up to 128 GB each at 2400 MT/s, but actual speed depends on the processor capability. Buyers who need more than 8 GB of RAM must procure a second compatible Xeon processor.
