Built for dense storage workloads

The PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server built for software-defined storage, service providers and virtual desktop infrastructure. Two Xeon Silver 4110 processors run at 2.1 GHz with eight cores each, supported by 768 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots. The PERC H730P controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with a 2 GB cache and battery backup.

Verify power, network and drive readiness

Confirm the rack can supply dual 1100 W redundant hot-swap power connections and that 2U of vertical space is available. The network daughter card provides two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, so matching transceivers and cabling must be on hand. Twenty-four 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drive trays are included but no drives are installed, so source compatible media before deployment.

Fits standard racks and frees PCIe slots

Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for quick mounting in standard four-post racks. iDRAC 9 Enterprise gives full remote management without a local console. The quad-port network daughter card uses a dedicated slot, leaving the remaining PCIe lanes free for additional controllers, accelerators or storage adapters as workloads grow.
