The Dell PowerEdge R940 fits four Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors into a 3U rack chassis. Each CPU delivers 20 cores at 2.4 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system ships with 256 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 48 slots. It targets organisations running virtualisation, databases or in-memory analytics that need high core counts in limited rack space.

Eight-bay front storage with hardware RAID

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept SATA or SAS media and connect to a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache. The controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Two 400 GB SATA SSDs are installed from the factory. Redundant hot-swap 1600 W platinum power supplies and included sliding rails simplify deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Quad-port networking and remote management

A daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible uplink choices. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables out-of-band monitoring, firmware updates and virtual console access without touching the host OS.
