The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 is a 1U rack system with dual eight-core Xeon E5-2630v3 processors at 2.4GHz, 64GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory and two 146GB 15K SAS drives on a Smart HBA H240 controller supporting RAID 0, 1 and 5. Redundant hot-swap 550W power supplies and eight 2.5-inch SFF bays complete the chassis. It ships without an operating system.

Fit and limits

This server suits workloads that need high core density in a single rack unit, such as virtualization hosts, database nodes or compute clusters that can run within the installed 64GB memory ceiling. Buyers who need more than 64GB of RAM, more than eight drive bays or a different RAID feature set should look elsewhere. The Matrox G200 graphics subsystem is limited to basic console output and does not support GPU compute workloads.

Deciding specification

The installed memory sits at the maximum supported by the current processor configuration at 64GB across 16 DIMM slots, so any workload requiring additional capacity would need a processor upgrade before more DDR4 modules can be used.
