Compact 1U rack server for scale-out workloads

The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 eight-core processor at 2.4 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 ECC memory. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays connect to an H240 controller supporting RAID 0, 1 and 5. Redundant hot-swap power supplies keep the platform running during maintenance.

Upgrade from single-socket towers or older G8 racks

Adding a second Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 CPU doubles cores to a maximum of 36 and unlocks the remaining eight DIMM slots. The jump is worth it when thread count and memory capacity become bottlenecks for virtualisation or database tasks.

Limited to 12 Gb/s SAS

The H240 controller and drive backplane cap throughput at those rates, so faster flash media cannot run at its native PCIe pace. The Matrox G200 graphics core provides only basic console output with 16 MB video memory.
