The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 packs two Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 eight-core processors at 2.6 GHz and 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory into a single rack unit. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation. This configuration targets virtualization hosts, database nodes and high-density web tiers that need maximum thread count in minimal space.

Upgrade from single-socket or Gen8

Moving from a single-processor server or an earlier Gen8 chassis adds a second socket, doubling core count to 16 physical and 32 logical cores while keeping the same 1U footprint. The jump is worth it when workloads scale across threads — container clusters, multi-tenant databases or heavy Java middleware — and when the existing power and cooling budget already supports 500 W redundant supplies.

SAS 12 Gb/s controller with 6 Gb/s drives

The Smart HBA H240ar controller supports 12 Gb/s SAS and 6 Gb/s SATA, but the two installed 3.5-inch 1 TB drives run at 7.2K RPM on a 6 Gb/s link. That link speed caps sequential throughput well below the controller ceiling, so random I/O and mixed workloads will hit the drive limit first. Four LFF bays total leave two empty slots; adding faster SAS SSDs or more spindles is the only way to raise the storage ceiling.
