The drive uses the M.2 2280-D5-M form factor and ships with the SanDisk Optimus heatsink attached. The heatsink adds height, so verify your laptop's M.2 slot clearance before installing. Many thin-and-light laptops only accept single-sided modules without a heatsink.

My motherboard only has PCIe 3.0 M.2 slots. Can I still use this NVMe 1.4 SSD and what performance should I expect?

Yes, the SSD is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 x4 slots. It will operate at the slot's maximum throughput, so sequential speeds will be limited to roughly 3 500 MBps read and 3 000 MBps write instead of the rated 7 200/6 600 MBps. Random IOPS remain high for responsive everyday use.

Does the 8 TB model support hardware encryption and management software on Windows and Linux?

The drive features TCG Opal v2.01 data-at-rest encryption for hardware-based security. SanDisk Dashboard software for monitoring, firmware updates and Game Mode is Windows only. On Linux you can manage encryption with tools such as sedutil or nvme-cli, but the vendor utility is not available.
