Controller and Compatibility
This Vertical Cable RAID controller uses Broadcom's SAS 3008 chip to provide eight internal lanes through two SFF-8643 ports. It connects via a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot and supports SAS and SATA drives at up to 12Gb/s. The card operates in IR mode with RAID 0, 1, 1E and 10 and is compatible with the SAS 9311-8I. Driver installation is required using the supplied optical disc.
Thermals and Power
The board draws power solely from the PCIe slot and has no onboard fan. Under normal operation the controller runs at typical HBA temperatures for a server chassis with directed airflow. No external power connectors are present and acoustic output is limited to the system fans moving air across the heatsink.
Sustained Load Behaviour
During continuous rebuild or parity operations the SAS 3008 maintains 12Gb/s throughput per lane without throttling. The IR firmware manages queue depth across all eight channels to keep latency consistent. Write-heavy RAID 10 workloads saturate the PCIe 3.0 x8 link before the controller becomes a bottleneck.
