The WD_BLACK SN850 WDS500G1XHE is a 500GB M.2 2280 internal SSD built on 3D NAND with a PCI-Express 4.0 x4 interface. It delivers sequential reads up to 7000 MBps and writes up to 4100 MBps for desktop gaming and high-performance workloads. The drive includes an integrated heatsink and customizable RGB lighting controlled via WD_BLACK Dashboard on Windows.

Desktop M.2 slot and PS5 firmware check

Confirm your motherboard has an M.2 2280 slot wired for PCIe 4.0 x4 to reach the rated speeds; older slots will fall back to PCIe 3.0. For PlayStation 5 use, the console must run system software 21.02-04.00.00 or later and the heatsink model fits the PS5 expansion bay. The drive is not intended for NAS or server environments.

Thermals and power in normal use

The heatsink is designed to minimise thermal throttling so sustained transfers stay near peak rates within the 0°C to 70°C operating range. Idle power draws 40mW in PS3 state or 5mW in PS4 sleep; with RGB enabled those rise to 80mW and 60mW respectively. The 300TB TBW rating and 1.75M hour MTTF reflect typical consumer endurance.
