LUOM Eyield E05 2.5" SATA to USB 3.0 HDD Enclosure

What this enclosure does

The LUOM Eyield E05 turns any 2.5 inch SATA SSD or HDD between 7 mm and 9.5 mm thick into a portable USB 3.0 drive. It accepts drives up to 2 TB and works with Windows, Linux and Mac OS without installing drivers. The tool-free design lets you swap drives in seconds and a supplied PU bag protects the unit during transport.

Sustained transfer behaviour

The enclosure uses a USB 3.0 connection rated at 5 Gbps and supports UASP, which the supplier says is 20 percent faster than standard USB 3.0 for typical workloads. Actual throughput will vary with the drive fitted, the host controller and the file mix, so sustained speeds are usually lower than the interface maximum. The drive remains backward compatible with SATA II and I interfaces.

Check before you buy

Your drive must be a 2.5 inch SATA model with a thickness of 7 mm to 9.5 mm and a capacity no larger than 2 TB. The host device needs a free USB 3.0 port to reach the advertised rate; USB 2.0 ports will work but at a much reduced speed. No external power supply is mentioned, so the enclosure draws power from the USB port itself.
