This 16GB DDR4 2133MHz ECC RDIMM module is built for Dell PowerEdge R430, R530, R630, R630 XL, R730, R730 XL, R730xd, R730xd XL, R830, and R930 rack servers. It targets IT administrators upgrading 13th Gen platforms that require registered, error-correcting memory for stable operation. The single 288-pin DIMM delivers 16GB capacity at 1.20V with CL15 latency. It is not suitable for desktops, laptops, or workstations that only accept non-ECC unbuffered modules.

Replacing Lower-Capacity RDIMMs

The module replaces smaller registered DIMMs such as 4GB or 8GB sticks to increase total system memory within the same slot count. The upgrade is worth it when workloads exceed current capacity, causing swapping or limiting virtual machine density. Mixing speeds is possible, though the system will run at the speed of the slowest installed module. ECC Registered and ECC Load Reduced modules cannot be mixed; all populated slots must use matching ECC types for the server to post and operate correctly.

16GB Dual-Rank Headroom

The 2Rx4 dual-rank organisation provides 16GB per slot, letting a fully populated chassis reach higher aggregate memory without adding risers. It comfortably handles virtualisation hosts, database buffers, and multi-tenant applications that benefit from larger working sets. Headroom runs out when the application footprint exceeds the server's maximum supported memory or when the memory controller's rank-per-channel limit is reached, requiring higher-density modules or additional servers to scale further.
