The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 with ten cores at 2.3 GHz into a 1U rack chassis. Twenty-four gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across twelve DIMM slots. Three 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives and a PERC H730 RAID controller provide redundant storage. Four 1 GbE ports and two PCIe 3.0 slots handle connectivity and expansion.

Single ten-core Xeon limits parallel throughput

Only one processor is populated, so the system tops out at ten physical cores and twenty threads. The chipset caps memory at 24 GB despite twelve slots, and the H730 controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the 2.5-inch drive bays. Buyers who need more cores or larger memory capacity must look elsewhere.

Redundant 550 W supply cools a 1U chassis

A hot-swap 550 watt redundant power supply feeds the server while the 1U height forces high-velocity airflow through the chassis. The DVD-ROM drive and iDRAC8 remote management add minor heat load.
