The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2603 v3 six-core processor at 1.6 GHz with 16 GB of DDR4 memory. Eight 300 GB 15K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730 RAID controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. A redundant 550 W power supply and four 1 GbE ports complete the baseline configuration. The chassis occupies one rack unit and includes a DVD-ROM drive.

SAS drive limits and controller scope

The 2.5-inch hot-plug bays accept SAS or SATA drives, but the installed drives are 6 Gbps SAS units and the H730 controller operates at 12 Gbps. Maximum raw capacity per bay reaches 16 TB, giving a theoretical ceiling well above the current 300 GB units. PCIe 3.0 expansion is restricted to two slots, so additional HBAs or NICs must fit within that limit. Memory speed is tied to the processor capability and tops out at 2400 MT/s.

Verify rack depth and memory headroom

Confirm the rack can accommodate a 26.7-inch deep chassis before ordering. The system ships with one processor installed; a second CPU is required to unlock the remaining six DIMM slots and reach the 384 GB maximum. Only DDR4 modules in 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB capacities are compatible. No operating system is included, so licences and installation media must be sourced separately.
