The DELL PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server built for storage-dense workloads. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors provide 16 cores each at 2.6 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. It ships with 768 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 24 slots. Twenty-four 300 GB 10K SAS drives connect through a PERC H730P 2 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.

Under continuous workloads the 10K SAS drives and dual 16-core CPUs draw steady power from the redundant 1100 W supplies. The H730P controller battery protects cached writes during unexpected power loss. iDRAC 9 Enterprise monitors thermal sensors and fan speeds without host OS involvement. Hot-swap drive and power supply bays allow component replacement while the system remains online. The 2U chassis airflow is designed for sustained density rather than burst performance.
