Rack server for virtualisation hosts

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 occupies 2U and holds up to 16 SFF bays. A single Xeon E5-2643 v3 at 3.4 GHz with 6 cores and 4 GB DDR4 is installed. The Smart Array P440 with 4 GB FBWC manages the two 146 GB 15K SAS drives in RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60. Dual 500 W hot-swap supplies provide redundancy.

Upgrade from single-socket towers

Adding a second Xeon raises the core ceiling to 36 and memory capacity to 3 TB across 24 slots. The jump pays off when current workloads saturate the six physical cores or when DDR4 demand exceeds the 4 GB baseline. Without a second CPU the extra DIMM banks remain inactive.

Slide-in rails and cabled drives

The chassis accepts tool-less rails for standard racks. Drives mount in supplied trays that click into the 2.5 inch backplane; the P440 cables route to the same plane. FBWC cache loss occurs only if the super-capacitor pack is missing or degraded, so verify the module seats firmly before powering on.
