Dual U.2/U.3 NVMe rack for 5.25 bay

The ToughArmor MB105VP-B installs into a standard external 5.25-inch optical drive bay and holds two 2.5-inch U.2 or U.3 PCIe NVMe SSDs up to 15mm drive height. It connects both drives through a single Slimline SAS SFF-8654-8i connector for PCIe 4.0 data paths. Removable full-metal trays with an eagle-hook latch allow front-access drive swaps without tools.

Full-metal enclosure with adjustable cooling

The all-metal chassis uses a built-in 40mm x 20mm rear fan that exhausts heat through ventilation holes above the trays. Three fan settings — Hi, Low and Off — let the operator match airflow to workload intensity. The tray design adds cooling space above each drive to improve heat dissipation during sustained operation.

PCIe 4.0 bandwidth shared over one Slimline SAS link

Each bay supports PCIe 4.0 specification with transfer rates up to 64Gb/s, but both drives share the single SFF-8654-8i connection to the host. Total throughput depends on the host controller lane allocation and cable length. Builders needing more than two U.2/U.3 devices or separate controller links will require additional enclosures or a different backplane topology.
