The Team Group CX2 1 TB 2.5-inch drive uses 3D NAND and a SATA III interface to replace a mechanical hard drive in a laptop or desktop. It delivers sequential reads up to 540 MBps and writes up to 490 MBps with SLC caching and no DRAM cache. The 200 TBW rating and 1 000 000 hour MTBF suit everyday consumer workloads.

SATA III practical limits

The drive runs on SATA Rev. 3.0 at 6 Gb/s and falls back to SATA Rev. 2.0 when the host only supports the older standard. Throughput cannot exceed the bus ceiling, so sustained transfers stay below the quoted 540 MBps read and 490 MBps write figures. Operating temperature is rated 0 °C to 70 °C and storage temperature -40 °C to 85 °C.

Simple 2.5-inch installation

Mount the drive in any standard 2.5-inch bay, connect the SATA data and power cables, and the system recognises it without extra drivers. Common issues are loose cables, a port limited to SATA 2.0 speeds, or forgetting to initialise the volume in the operating system. Shock resistance of 1500 G and vibration resistance of 20 G protect the drive once installed.

The 1TB model gives you 1TB of storage with 200TBW endurance. The 256GB and 512GB drives have lower capacity and the same 200TBW or 400TBW rating, while the 2TB version doubles capacity and raises endurance to 1600TBW. Pick the size that matches the space you need and the write workload you expect.

What does the 540 MBps sequential read figure mean once the drive is installed in my laptop?

In a real machine the drive will deliver up to 540 MBps on large, sequential files when the SATA III link runs at 6Gbps. Everyday mixed workloads and small files will be slower, but you will still see boot and app-load times roughly four times quicker than a mechanical hard drive.

The drive uses SATA III — what does that cap in practice?

SATA III (SATA Rev. 3.0) limits the interface to 6Gbps, so the maximum throughput you can see is about 540 MBps read and 490 MBps write. The drive is backwards compatible with SATA Rev. 2.0, but on a 3Gbps port speeds will be roughly half.
