The AMD EPYC 9734 is a 112-core, 224-thread server processor built for heavily threaded workloads such as virtualization, large databases and high-performance computing. Its base frequency is 2.2 GHz with a maximum turbo of 3.0 GHz, and it delivers 256 MB of L3 cache plus 112 MB of L2 cache. The chip fits the SP5 socket and has a thermal design power of 340 W without a cooler included.
Moving to this 112-core part makes sense when licence costs, rack space or memory bandwidth per socket push you toward maximum core density in a single node. The 12-channel DDR5-4800 memory controller and 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes feed data to all cores without bottlenecking typical scale-up applications. If your workload fits comfortably on fewer cores, a smaller EPYC 9004 model will reduce power draw and acquisition cost.
The SP5 platform caps memory speed at DDR5-4800 across twelve channels, so faster modules will run at this ceiling. All 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes are available only when the motherboard and backplane support the full lane count; some chassis or riser designs expose fewer lanes. Cooling must handle 340 W sustained load, and the processor does not ship with a heatsink or fan.
