Rugged 16-Bay Backplane Cage

The ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB516SP-B fits sixteen 2.5" SAS or SATA drives into two external 5.25" bays. It is built for servers, media arrays and industrial PCs that need high-density storage in a standard chassis. The full-metal frame meets the demands of medical and military installations.

Thermals and Power

Four miniSAS HD SFF-8643 ports connect the backplane to the host controller. Passive cooling relies on case airflow across the metal drive trays and cage body. No fan is included, so acoustic output depends entirely on the system fans. Power is supplied through the backplane connectors to each drive slot.

Interface Decides Fit

The cage uses four miniSAS HD SFF-8643 links for up to 12 Gb/sec per SAS channel and 6 Gb/sec per SATA channel. A controller with matching ports and cable length is required. The unit supports 7 mm drive height only; thicker 2.5" drives will not fit.
