This OWC kit provides 64GB of DDR4 2400 memory using two 32GB registered DIMMs. It is built for Cisco UCS B420 M4 and C460 M4 servers that require ECC registered modules. The memory operates at 1.2V with CL17 latency and a 2Rx4 rank configuration. It will not work in standard desktop computers or alongside unbuffered or load-reduced DIMMs.
These modules have no heat spreaders and rely on server chassis airflow for cooling. Registered ECC DDR4 at 1.2V draws modest power per DIMM under typical server workloads. Acoustic output is determined by the host system fans rather than the memory itself.
The kit replaces Cisco part numbers HXMR1X322RVA, HXSPM32RVA, UCSMR1X322RVA, UCSMR1X322RVARF and UCSMR1X322RVAS. Using matched OWC modules simplifies qualification and avoids mixing registered with unbuffered or load-reduced memory.

Power down the server, open the chassis, align each 288-pin module with the keyed slot and press firmly until the ejector tabs lock; the step often missed is populating the correct channel slots in the order specified by the Cisco UCS B420 M4 memory population guide so that both 32 GB modules run as a matched pair.
The modules themselves require no periodic maintenance; replacement is only needed if a DIMM fails or if you upgrade capacity beyond the 64 GB kit, at which point you must add identical 2Rx4 PC4-19200 CL17 1.2 V registered modules to keep ECC and registered operation consistent.
The DDR4 2400 CL17 1.2 V specification sets the maximum sustained data rate and latency; under continuous load the memory controller will throttle to stay within the JEDEC-defined thermal and timing envelope of the PC4-19200 modules.
